Everything You Need to Know About the Goldendoodle!

Dogs today are very much a part of a family setting. They keep us entertained, put smiles on our faces, they are our children's best friends, they are there for us to talk to when we are lonely and have no one else! They love us unconditionally and bring an abundance of joy and love into a family. There is no question in my mind that since the beginning of time dogs have been know as mans best friend!

Goldendoodles are no exception. A golden doodle is a mix between a golden retriever and a poodle. Breeders is Australia started breeding this cross in the mid 1980's and breeders in north America have been breeding them since the mid 1990's. They where first bred in Australia as guide dogs for people needing a larger, allergy friendly dog!

Goldendoodles are amazing, healthy, family dogs for so many reasons!

First of all the mix between a poodle and retriever gives the doodle a quality known as "hybrid vigor" (the offspring of genetically dissimilar parents) which means mix breed dogs are usually healthier and live longer then purebreds. This is because most genetic traits are recessive. Golden's and poodles don't have a lot of diseases in common so if both parents don't carry a particular trait for a certain disease the pups can't get it. This is the reason many mix breed dogs including the goldendoodle are healthier then purebreds. You still have to choose your breeder carefully and make sure they are performing all the required health testing, temperament testing and researching the lines thoroughly before they are breeding their dogs but in general mix breeds are genetically more sound!

Goldendoodles also possess many qualities of both the poodle and golden. Most goldendoodles are friendly, highly intelligent, goofy dogs who love to be part of the family. They love to swim, play fetch and interact with people. They are very social dogs and love to be active and have fun. I have donated dogs as therapy and service dogs and the doodle excels at this type of work! As a breeder I hear 100's of stories about how smart these dogs are and how they are at the top of their puppy class and how they are the best dogs my clients have every owned

Most doodles have a very low to non-shedding coat. This depends on the dog and what type of coat they have. There are 3 different coat types, wool (which is a tight curl and the most hypoallergenic), fleece (which is a wavy and usually still very low shedding and hypoallergenic) and hair (which is straighter and usually sheds the most). An experienced breeder can usually tell when the pups is 6-7 weeks old what type of coat it will have as an adult and the breeder will help you find the right puppy for your needs . Goldendoodles coat will continue to grow and can be between 3-8 inches if not clipped. A doodle requires regular brushing or they will mat and should go to the groomer for a clip every 4 months or so!

Goldendoodles also come in many colors and sizes depending on the poodle used. At our kennel we breed blonde, golden, apricot, red, black, silver and phantom doodles. We also have 3 different sizes, standards (any thing above 21" and 50lbs and up), mini's (13" to 20" and 25-49lbs) and tiny's (12" or less 10-24lbs).

Their life expectancy is usually about 12-15 years for the standards and 14-17 years for mini's.
Doodles also come in many different generations and depending on what you are looking for one generation may be better then another. F1's are a purebred golden mixed with a purebred poodle. This generation is usually the healthiest and posses the greatest amount of the "hybrid vigor" traits. F1b is a backcross and is a goldendoodle bred back to a poodle. These types of goldendoodles are usually best for people with severe allergies since the f1b usually has a curlier coat then an f1 (please note this isn't always the case and your breeder will be able to help you with this). F2 is a goldendoodle bred back to a goldendoodle. Pups in a litter of f2's tend to not sway as much in one direction or another. They seem to be a good mix between both the golden and the poodle (sometimes but not always in a f1 litter some pups will sway more towards a golden, some more towards a poodle and some will be inbetween), f3 (f3 and higher is also known as multi generation) is and f2 golden doodle bred back to an f2 golden doodle and f4 is a f3 golden doodle bred back to an f3 golden doodle. The more you breed them back to one another the more you miss out on the hybrid vigor trait. A 7th generations (f7) goldendoodle is eligible for registration as a purebred (this hasn't been done as far as I know).

As I mentioned before goldendoodles are healthier then most purebred dogs but breeders should still be performing all the testing on the parents. It's better to wait for a good quality pup from a great breeder then to support careless breeders who are just out to breed as many pups as possible without caring about the breed as a whole.

If you buy your golden doodle puppy from an unrepeatable breeder you may end up with many health problems and expensive vet bills.

How E-Commerce Started

Over the last 30 years, the definition of Electronic Commerce has changed. Initially, in the late 1970's, Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) and Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) were used as the basic technology to facilitate electronic commercial transactions. This was what electronic commerce originally meant, the use of technological innovations like EDIs and EFTs in doing commercial businesses electronically. EDIs and EFTs allowed businesses to electronic sending of commercial documents such as purchase orders or invoices.

In 1979, an engish inventor named Michael Aldrich invented online shopping. He did this by connecting a customized 26-inch color domestic television to a computer with real time transaction processing system through a domestic telephone line.

During the 1980's, forms of electronic commerce such as credit cards, Automated Teller machines (ATM) and telephone banking grew and were accepted. The Airline Reservation System typified by Savre in the USA and Travicom in the United Kingdom was also considered another form of e-commerce. Curiously, online shopping has been present even before IBM, Microsoft, Apple Inc. and the Internet. In the mid-1980's, CompuServe, one of the first popular networking services for home PC users, which provide tools like e-mail, message boards and chat rooms, added a service called Electronic Mall. In the Electronic Mall, users could purchase items directly form 110 online dealers. While this service did not succeed, we know it today as one of the first examples of e-commerce.

In the year 1990, at the European Organization for Nuclear research (CERN), Tim Berners-Lee, a researcher, proposed hypertext-based web information that a user can explore using s simple interface called a browser. The researcher called it the World Wide Web. Furthermore, in the year 1991, Web-based e-commerce emerged and became more alive due to the lifting of the ban on commercial business operating over the Internet by the National Science Foundation. In 1993, Marc Andreesen introduced the first widely distributed web browser called Mosaic at the National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA). In 1994, Netscape 1.0's release included Secure Socket Layer (SSL), an important security protocol that encrypts messages in an online transaction, which includes both the sending and receiving side. One of the functions of SSL is to ensure encryption of personal information such as names, addresses and credit card numbers as they pass over the Internet.

The first third-party services for processing online credit card sales began to appear in the years 1994 and 1995. Two of the most popular among these third-party services were First Virtual and CyberCash. Also in 1995, a company called Verisign began developing digital IDs, or certificates, that verified the identity of online businesses. Before long, Verisign shifted its focus from verifying the identity of online businesses to certifying that the e-commerce servers of a particular web site were properly encrypted and secure.

From the years 1995 up to the present, companies such as eBay and Amazon.com led the way for today's e-commerce bloom. These companies give consumers the chance to purchase almost anything online. Clients can just type whatever they need in the search engine and a list of related stuff comes up.

Where Should I Place Nanny Cameras in My House?

One of the questions I often get asked is where someone should place nanny cameras in their house. This is a very good question and by the time you have finished reading this article I hope that you will have a much better understanding of some of the places that child safety devices, or nanny cameras as they are often called, can and should be placed.

I will start off with the obvious locations

The Child's Bedroom

There are several places in a kids bedroom that you can place hidden cameras and there are several types that are made specifically to fit into a kids bedroom.

There are some spy cameras that are functioning smoke detectors with a very small camera inside them that would work great in a kids room. And you get the added functionality of the smoke detector to go along with it.

There are stuffed animals that can be placed on shelves, in the corner of the room, or on a dresser. Just make sure to place them in a way that is natural. As an example, you could pile several stuffed animals together with one having a hidden nanny camera in it.

One last option before I move on to the next room is an air purifier that has a hidden spy camera in it. Again, you get the added benefit of the air purification unit along with the security of the nanny cam.

OK, the next rooms are also probably obvious as well and that would be where the child is going to spend most of his/her time while they are awake.

The Playroom, Living Room, or a Family Room

This is where you have to take a little bit of time and think about what the habits of your child are (or the nanny or babysitter if your child is an infant) and decide where you think they are going to spend the most time.

One of the things you could use in these rooms are hidden camera clocks. There are a ton of options here to match just about any decor. Again, you are going to want to place it where it is natural, but where you can see as much of the room as possible.

Several other options would be a tissue holder (yes, even tissue holders can come with hidden nanny cameras), a cordless phone, lamps, the good ole smoke alarm that I mentioned earlier, and even an electrical outlet.

Now lets get to some of the less obvious places.

The Kitchen

Your children do have to eat don't they?

This means they will be spending at least a little bit of time in the kitchen. Again, most of the hidden cameras that were listed above, will work here as well.

The Yard

One last place you might want to consider if you actually have one, is the yard. It really depends on how old your kids are and if they spend much time outside or not.

I really hope that this article got you thinking about some of the places that you can put a hidden nanny camera in your house.

The main thing that I want you to take away from this article is that you need to take a little bit of time and think about your children's habits, or if they are an infant, the habits of your nanny or babysitter. Place the hidden cameras in the locations that you think they will be spending most of their time.

Here's to keeping your children safe!

A Short History of Radio Control

Radio control (RC) had its early origins in the late 1800's when the technology was used to steer a remote controlled boat. Interest in RC technology grew through the years and its many practical applications soon were put into use.

Before radio control many models utilized clockwork type mechanisms to control their flight or sail or run times. Clockwork mechanisms could also control and vary direction. Tethering to a pivot or central pole became popular for model cars and hydroplane vehicles. Model airplanes would be tethered to a pole via control lines. A person would stand in the center of a circular flying zone and turn as the plane circled around. Very dizzying!

During World War II both the axis powers and the allies used radio control to help turn the tide of battle to their advantage. Most notably, the Luftwaffe used controllable winged bombs to target allied ships.

As the years progressed, radio control became more sophisticated utilizing relays to control RC products. Transistors, developed in the 1960's allowed the use of proportional servo controls to greatly reduced weight and bulk. This made commercial production of RC Toys much more feasible. R/C products became more diversified and RC tanks, RC hovercraft, RC trucks, RC cars and RC boats now make up a substantial portion of the R/C world.

The 1990's ushered in the mini and micro RC products. Transistors also have the advantage of operating with low voltage. Lower voltage means fewer batteries and less weight. A tremendous advantage when you are trying to get something to fly!

Batteries have evolved also. Today, rechargeable Ni-Cad batteries are in common use. The newer Li-Po (lithium polymer) batteries have about half the weight and twice the endurance making RC planes and RC helicopters more lightweight with longer flight times. Although gas powered models are still popular, they have given ground to the electric battery powered models. Electric power is now considered to be the most common model power source.
